People in the Conn Lab

Graeme Conn, PhDGraeme Conn, PhD
Associate Professor

Graeme received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of Edinburgh, UK, and followed this with postdoctoral research as a Wellcome Trust International Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. Graeme was a faculty member at UMIST/ The University of Manchester, UK, from 2000 and joined the Department of Biochemistry at Emory as an Associate Professor in September 2008.

Debayan Dey, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow

Debayan received his  Bachelors degree in Physics and Masters degree in Biophysics from Calcutta University, India. He received his Ph.D. in Crystallography and Structural biology from Physics Department of Indian Institute of Science in 2016. After a short postdoctoral work at Indian Institute of Science  and Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research, India, he joined the Conn lab in June 2017. Deb is currently supported by Cystic Fibrosis Foundation postdoctoral fellowship for his work on the P. aeruginosa lysine trimethyltransferase EftM.

Paige LaMore

Paige LaMore
Research Specialist

Paige graduated in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. Paige joined the Conn lab in July 2018 where she will support our work on aminoglycoside-resistance rRNA methyltransferases as well as new collaborative project with Dr. Jane Jackman (The Ohio State University) on the tRNA methyltransferase Trm10.

Zane LaughlinZane Laughlin
Graduate Student, BCDB Program

Originally from Forest, VA, Zane completed his Bachelor’s in Chemistry with specialization in Biochemistry at the University of Virginia in 2016. He joined the BCDB graduate program at Emory in the Fall of 2016. Zane’s scientific interests in biochemistry center on protein structure and function. In June 2017, Zane joined the Conn Lab where his research will focus on understanding the structure, function and activities of ribosomal RNA methyltransferase enzymes. He is also a current appointee of Emory’s Antimicrobial Resistance and Therapeutic Discovery Training Program (ARTDTP).

Meisam Nosrati, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow

Meisam received his Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry at the Michigan State University in 2015 and joined the Conn lab in early 2017 following brief postdoctoral studies at Michigan and Rice University. His research will focus on structure-function studies of antibiotic-resistance rRNA methyltransferases.

Esther Park

Esther Park
Research Specialist

Esther recently graduated from Syracuse University in New York with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. Esther previously spent a summer doing research in the Conn lab and rejoined in June 2018 as Research Specialist. In this role, Esther research will focus on the aminoglycoside-resistance rRNA methyltransferases.

Samantha Schwartz

Samantha Schwartz
Graduate Student, BCDB Program

Samantha received her Bachelors degree in Biology from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 2012 and after working as a research technician, joined the BCDB program at Emory in Fall 2015. Samantha joined the Conn lab in May 2016 where her thesis research will focus on molecular mechanisms of RNA-mediated regulation of innate immune system proteins. Sam is the current recipient of a Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Fellowship (F31) from NIH/NIAID for this work.

Natalia ZelinskayaNatalia Zelinskaya, Ph.D.
Research Specialist, Lead

Natalia received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at Moscow State University, Russia. She continued as a research scientist at the Institute of Protein Research, Pushchino, Russia, Natalia and was a Royal Society visiting researcher at the University of Reading, UK, and Royal Society/ NATO Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Sheffield, UK. In 2008 Natalia became the first Conn lab member at Emory. Her research focuses on antibiotic-resistance rRNA methyltransferases.
