to the Emory University
Department of Biochemistry!

It is a real pleasure and an honor to become the Chair of the Department
of Biochemistry at Emory University School of Medicine. I feel very privileged
to join such an outstanding group of faculty, fellows, students, and staff
and I look forward to working with everyone in the coming years. Our Department
is outstanding in many ways and with your help we will initiate important
new growth that will help us to continue to be recognized for our outstanding
research and teaching. I am looking forward to the great and exciting
challenges ahead and I am certain that the future of our Department is
very bright.
My immediate plans over the next 4-5 months are to become acquainted with
the people in the Department and most importantly get my laboratory space
and equipment ready for moving in by May/June hopefully. My plan is to
be full-time in the Department by June 1, 2006. I intend on bringing about
a dozen people to Emory from my group here and they are also excited about
moving there. Our lab is always very open and we look forward to visiting
with you when we are up and running.
I want to thank Dr. Dean Danner, who has served as the Interim Chair,
for his excellent work over the past few years. I have asked Dr. Danner
to continue to help the Department until I am there full-time.
