We study cell regulation, particularly that involving members of the Arf family of GTPases. The Arf family is made up of 30 different genes/proteins in mammals and we study several of them. Currently we have projects that focus on: (A) Arl2 and Arl3 and their roles in cell division, cytokinesis, microtubule dynamics, ciliogenesis, mitochondrial functions, and possible links to cancer therapies, and (B) the role of Arfs and Arf-dependent coat proteins/complexes in regulating membrane traffic and specifically the traffic/processing of the Alzheimer’s precursor protein (APP), BACE, and g-secretase in neuronal cells as likely to be revealing about Alzheimer’s Disease pathogenesis and prevention.
