Dr. David Smith’s research interests have been in the area of cell surface carbohydrate and protein-carbohydrate interactions for his entire academic research career, which includes positions at the National Institutes of Health, Virginia Tech, The University of Georgia and now Emory University School of Medicine.  He also spent several years in industrial positions as VP for Research and Development in both diagnostics and therapeutics and served most recently as Sr. Director of Analytical Development at Neose Technologies before taking his current positions in the spring of 2006 as Director of The Glycomics Center at Emory University School of Medicine and Director of the Protein-Carbohydrate Interaction Core (Core H), part of the Consortium for Functional Glycomics (CFG), a large research initiative funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).
